Teacher
Raised in San Antonio, Texas and I was a proud Mighty Maverick at James Madison High School Class of 2000! I attended classes at San Antonio College (SAC) and Univ of Tx at San Antonio (UTSA). I graduated Cum Laude with my Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from the Univ of Tx Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHCSA).
I put my degree to work at the University Hospital in San Antonio where I worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Department of Immunology and Virology. I was part of the select team for molecular testing within the department and the Clinical Instructor for the rotating CLS Students. I moved to the beautiful countryside and began my teaching career as a Health Science Teacher at Bastrop High School. There I built up a strong Health Science program that offered 3 career certifications and serviced over 200 students. Now I have been using that science in the core curriculum as we build a health science program year by year here at Flatonia.
Bachelors of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from UTHCSA
Post Bachelorette Certificate in Molecular Diagnostics
Nationally certified Medical Laboratory Scientist from ASCP
Certified Teacher in 8-12 Science Composite and Health Science Technology Education (HSTE)
American Heart CPR Instructor
I am the chemistry and physics teacher for our district. Depending on the school year I will also teach Medical Terminology and sometimes with Blinn as a dual credit class. We have also offered Principles of Health Science, Medical Microbiology, and Scientific Research and Design. The goal is to get as many students as much healthcare pathway exposure as possible and our schedule gets a little creative to get that done.
I am also the sponsor of the Interact Club which is a service organization open to any high school student looking for ways to give back to the community. It is supported and sponsored by our local Rotary chapter and a strong student-led organization.
Before teaching at Flatonia I was a Health Science teacher at Bastrop High School for 5 years. There I coordinated the clinical rotations and taught ACC Phlebotomy to seniors. Before Teaching, I was a medical laboratory scientist working in immunology, virology, and microbiology in San Antonio for over 6 years doing all kinds of awesome lab work to find ways to get answers for what was making people sick.
Happily married to Martin Cherry Jr. with two crazy cute kids. Helping work cattle and hug on horses in my free time. I am a lover of all nerdy fun science things and a foodie at heart.
